France-tastic!

Well my Canon Rebel is out of commission for the moment because we can't find the charger so I used my Nokia Cell phone to capture these today.
This is what we love most about living in France, our little jump in the car castle hunting adventures. Today we loaded up the girls, complete with sippy cups and bottles (and who needs snacks when you have great boulangeries at every turn) and headed for Pau.
I love all of the old winding roads and cafes and restaurants not to mention the amazing architecture from the cathedrals to the gorgeous castles. The one seen above is where King Henry the 4th was born. His mother had to sing during the entire delivery the song of the region so that he would be a strong "bearn man" (bearn is the region). Songs sung during labor, by the mother no less cannot sound very pleasant:)
I love exploring with my wife. She has an amazing gift for navigating us through all the "non-planned" cities in France and even though our girls are young hopefully they will be able to soak up and appreciate some of the amazing culture around them. every time we see a castle Ryn gets so excited and asks which princess lives in that one! If this is my last year( most likely it is) we want to see and do as much as we can. On our list of to do this year, including having a baby is..
*Keukenhof (google this if you've never heard of it. It's in the Netherlands and to die for)
*Vienna --We LOVED Salzburg and touring the sound of music sites
*Prague-- Mark says it's his favorite European city
*Cambrai--Ryn's birthplace in the north of France
*Cholet--Elle's birthplace
*Lisbon-- to go see Kits bro Spence on his mission
*Greece--- might not make it here this year but it's a must do sometime!
*Alsace-- Eastern France---the only corner of France we haven't played in yet
*French Riviera-- Would love to rent a car and just drive the coastline wrapping all the way around to cinca terra in Italy.
* And hopefully either a Mediterranean cruise or northern Europe cruise with my fam at the end of the year.
Yep busy busy busy... but it's worth it, the memories we make are priceless.
But all in all as big and wonderful as the list is, just driving through the countryside here as the sun sets, holding my loves hand and glancing in the rear view mirror and my two angels is priceless enough for me! I am blessed!:)

Our summer recap

As most of you now know we are again in France for our 8th season! Wow, I can't even believe it. This December Kit and I will celebrate 11years of marriage and when I think that we will have spent 8 of those 11 years in France it's startling! All 3 of our children have been or will be born in France ( #3 is due in February), we don't really even know a whole lot about all the little stuff you have to do back home( our expenses are covered by the clubs, health insurance, pregnancy and medications by the government, they also send you $1000 at your seven month mark to prep you for new expenses not to mention a government paid vacation for the family. We also get around $800/ month just because we have 2 kids and it most likely will jump up a bit with our third) I must admit it is a bit overboard. But I think we will soak it up while we can.

This past summer was a roller coaster ride for us as we were not planning on coming back for another season. But for some reason I felt like we should just put my player resume back on the web and see wt kind of offers we got. At this same time Kit announced on Fathers Day this wonderful news......

Yep from our 8 year drought of trying and trying and two invitro tries to 3 kids three and under! And on Fathers Day too! I was soaring.

We were then contacted by a team and it all sounded good so we decided to sign with them. As we waited for them to send the tickets we frantically packed at a blurring pace filling boxes and boxes with toys and clothes, shoes and clothes for the new baby. We now have filled the basement of my parents house to go along with their already filled garage ( and it's a huge garage:) It's hard for us to believe that we have never even used half of the stuff we got for our wedding. And all though our washer and dryer (presents from Kit's parents) were brand new and have only been used maybe a total of one and a half years, we wonder if they will still work after all this storage time. Nevertheless when I finally hang up the sneakers and we do dive into all those boxes we will be sent back in time to the late 90's and wonder what we are going to do with all this out dated stuff. But it should be fun!

Back to our story we bought a new car this summer and had decided to drive down to Texas before leaving for France so as to spend some time with Kit's siblings. Right before we left, and I mean literally days before this happened........

Oh yes our first traumatic injury experience. I was at the library and Kit called,of course hysterical saying Ryn and Elle were playing tag and Ryn fell and hit her forehead on one of my Moms pots and that blood was everywhere. I sped home and couldn't get the image out of my mind of our beautiful angel girl with a Frankenstein scar across her forehead for the rest of her life. I screeched into the driveway and I loaded her up to take her to an IHC clinic. It was pretty bad all the way to the skull and bleeding all over ( as you can tell from the picture and her cute, sweet little bloody hand print on Mommy's shirt). They had to wrap her up in sheets and pin her arms behind her in a pillowcase and then Kit, myself and 2 other nurses held her down while the doctor stitched up first the two bottom layers of skin next to the skull and then the top layer. Ryn cried non stop form the pain I'm sure but also because she was so scared and didn't understand why her Mommy and Daddy were not helping her escape this straight jacket. Sh just kept crying for her Mommy and Daddy and saying she wanted to go get in the car. "I'm stuck, I'm stuck." It broke our hearts and I vowed that day to create the perfect sleek nerf body armour to protect our precious children. But I do know that the bumps and bruises, cuts and scrapes that come with life are only there to make us better and to help us learn. Ryn now knows what it means to be brave and whenever someone gets hurt she says, "it's ok, just be brave." She also knows that as painful as stitches are a big giant bowl of strawberry ice cream at baskin Robbin's makes everything just fine.

I love road trips and love packing up the car and driving. So thats what we did as we left for Texas. The only difference this time was that I had torn a muscle in my calf playing in a pro-Am league about two weeks earlier and so the big task of staying awake and driving fell on my sweet wife. She did great getting us all the way to the outskirts Albuquerque. I took over from there and they slept. I plugged in the ipod and lucky enough for me my girls are all sound sleepers so I could still just sing away. I noticed in the rear view mirror that Ryn was even singing along with me at times in her sleep. She loves it when I sing Groban, Buble or songs from Enchanted or Disney songs. We finally arrived in Austin and had fun playing on Joy and Darrels miniature golf course ( Ryn is a natural), I even set the course record which was quite an honor. I stayed for a few days and then flew to France for training camp and a month away form my precious girls. I knew it would be hard but I was in no way prepared for how bad it was, they are my lifeline. I missed singing to them and reading to them ( our girls adore books) kissing them and snuggling with them, this includes Kit too, as she loves when I read to her. j/k :)
Kit will provide part II of our summer recap in the next post( remember I post in blue and Kit posts in yellow)

All My Loving ----to you Kit

"Absence makes the heart grow fonder" should more likely be " Absence devides my heart assunder". I, as do all people enjoy some quite time to themselves to do the things they like to do etc. But being away from my sweet Kit for very long at all stinks! I love her and all that she brings to my life. For her beauty, laughter, those eyes and her gorgeous voice. But when you are away from eachother for very long it's all the little things too that you miss. Having my best friend and someone that understands me and where I've been and what I've experienced, there is no substitute.
So to My dear wife until saturday know that I am sending all my love to you!

Alone in France.

France is definately not the place where you want to be alone. Everything is so magical and romantic. All the tiny little villages here in the south of France perched up on hillsides or tucked away in a quaint valley surrounded by the biggest sunflowers you have ever seen. My heart of course was left in Texas (No you Texans I am not talking about missing Texas) with my 3 angels. Kit and the girls stayed behind so that they could be there for Rachel's and Spencer's farewells. This also has allowed me some time to get into the swing of things(after my late summer calf muscle tear) and get the living arrangements all settled. I am in search of the perfect little appartement either in the town of Hagetmau or Mont de Marsan.
I am currently staying in a Gite which is an experience in and of it's own. The Gite is a very large, but old French house. The room I am staying in looks and feels like a mix between a cathedral and museum. In fact the 1st night I went to bed I awoke to a strange glow coming from the fireplace mantle, after staring at it for a good while trying to figure out what it was, I scurried to get the light only to learn that it was a glow in the dark virgin Mary statue (We are only 30 minutes from Lourdes, a catholic disneyland of sorts). So in order to get better sleep I moved her into the living room.
Saturday we had our first practice game and we learned alot. This year the team is totally new with 8 new players. It will take some time for us to get to know eachother but the coach is great and we have a lot of athleticism. I once again am the only white guy on the team so far, (still recruiting) but I am used to that.
My calf was pretty sore and more so just tired and weak throughout the game I couldn't buy a 3-pointer, but finished with 27pts getting most of them from the foul line and posting up on smaller guards. We led by as many as 15 in the first half but ran out of gas in the second half and ended up loosing by 20! It was the first time we played together and we had just had a crazy week of physical practices, lots of running and weight training. We were all burned out. But the coach and team leaders were very positive after the game and excited to see what happens with a month of practices under our belts. ( a month before our first regular season game)

Our dear friend Michelle gave us the best going away gift ever as she treated us to a family photoshoot. It was so wonderful and I must say has been a lifesaver for me here alone. The pictures she took captured not just the beauty of my little family ( so I am a little proud:) but also each little emotion that I love so much about all three of my girls. Ryn's golden locks framing her dimples and chocolate eyes. Elles penetrating stare and her dainty but firey little frame. And the beauty and elegance of my sweet wife. But most of all, as Michelle mentioned, you can actually see and feel the love we have for eachother in the pictures. So wonderful !What a gift to be able to capture that, freeze it and give that to people. If you wanna check them out click here
